I do marketing for a handful of small business clients. Explainer videos used to mean either hiring someone or convincing one of the business owners to get in front of a camera, which was always a struggle. HeyGen changed that workflow for me and I want to give an honest account of how.

The Video Agent is the starting point. You type a basic description of what you want, a product explainer, a company intro, a social media ad, and it generates a full plan including script, avatar selection and background music. From that plan you go into the AI Studio to customize.

The avatar library has a wide range of realistic options and the quality is good enough that clients who see the videos are generally not bothered by the fact that it is not a real person. You can also create a custom avatar from a short video recording if a client specifically wants their face in the content.

The template selection covers the formats I use most: social media, e-commerce, breaking news style. Brand kits keep everything consistent across different videos for the same client.

Translation is built in and maintains the original voice across languages, which has been useful for one client who sells to both English and Spanish-speaking markets. The Canva and HubSpot integrations save some steps in the wider workflow.

One thing to know: the more you put into the prompt at the Video Agent stage, the less you have to fix in the editor afterward. Vague prompts produce generic results.

Your point about putting more into the Video Agent prompt upfront is the most practical advice in this post. I spent the first month editing heavily because I was giving it vague prompts. Now I write the brief as carefully as I would a client brief for a human and the amount of editing dropped by about two thirds.

The analytics feature showing viewer engagement per video being specifically useful for understanding whether different avatar selections, different script styles or different visual approaches affect viewer completion rate is the improvement feedback loop that turns anecdotal creative preferences into evidence-based decisions. Comparing two videos with different avatars addressing the same audience on the same topic and seeing differential completion rates produces actionable creative insight r...

The translation maintaining the original voice across languages being the feature that makes HeyGen practical for clients with multilingual distribution needs without requiring separate recording sessions per language is worth emphasising. A client who has invested in developing a recognisable voice for their brand communications should not have to choose between using AI for multilingual efficiency and maintaining that voice consistency. HeyGen's approach solving both requirements simultaneousl...
