Can AI Improve Investment Research Without Making Decisions?

**The three-stage process**

1. Find less obvious opportunities: map suppliers, infrastructure, adjacent markets, and possible disruption.

2. Red-team the thesis: ask the model to identify reasons the investment could fail.

3. Monitor what is owned: organise holdings and flag meaningful changes.

**Where AI can help**

AI can accelerate research across long reports, compare several arguments, generate questions, and surface areas that deserve deeper investigation.

It can also challenge confirmation bias. A person excited about an idea may overlook competitive threats, regulation, customer behaviour, or technical risk.

**Where AI becomes dangerous**

A model may use incomplete or outdated data. It can create a confident thesis without understanding the quality of the underlying evidence. It may also confuse correlation with causation.

Investment research should therefore separate:

- Verified facts

- Model-generated interpretation

- Assumptions

- Unknowns

- Personal risk tolerance

**The human edge**

Dan argues that people should invest in areas they understand. This is important. AI can produce information, but it does not automatically give the user experience, conviction, or an information advantage.
