Is AI actually creative… or just really good at remixing?
I’ve been going back and forth on this one.🤯
Sometimes I see AI generate writing, music, images, or ideas that genuinely feel creative. Other times it feels more like an ultra-fast pattern machine that’s just recombining things humans already made.
So I’m curious how people here define it.
If creativity is about combining existing influences in new ways, then maybe AI *is* creative. But if creativity requires lived experience, intention, emotion, taste, or some kind of deeper original perspective, then maybe it isn’t, maybe it’s only simulating the appearance of creativity.
I’m a musician, so this hits a nerve a bit. I can see AI being useful as a tool for brainstorming or breaking creative blocks. But I also wonder whether we’re starting to blur the line between “generated output” and actual artistic expression.
**How do you see it?**
- Can AI truly be creative?
- Or is it fundamentally derivative?
- Does that distinction even matter if the end result still moves people?
- And do you think human-made work will become *more* valued because of this, or less?
Would love to hear from writers, artists, designers, musicians, and anyone building with generative tools.
I'm a creative type and feel like AI is realising a lot about creativity.
