I've spent the last couple weeks playing with both (mostly free tiers to start) building little prototypes like a simple habit tracker and a basic client dashboard thing. The iteration speed after the initial generation is where I think the real comparison matters. First generation quality is close enough between them that it's not usually the deciding factor. What actually matters is how many prompts it takes to get from the initial output to something you'd show a client. Lovable's visual editing mode that lets you click and modify specific elements without going back to text prompts has a real advantage there for UI-heavy applications.

Tested both extensively over two months building internal tools for a team of twelve. Neither produced production-ready code without significant cleanup. Both saved substantial time compared to writing from scratch. Bolt's error messages are more interpretable when something breaks. Lovable's UI outputs look more polished out of the box.
