Cryptohopper setup from scratch, what I got wrong the first time

What the tutorial covers that I had missed:

- API key permissions need to be set exactly right, trade permissions yes, withdrawal permissions no

- Paper trading is not optional for a new strategy, it is how you find configuration errors before they cost real money

- The coin selection logic matters more than most setup guides acknowledge

- The Marketplace has pre-built strategies worth starting from rather than building from scratch

The pricing tiers are broken down clearly which helps you understand what you actually need before paying for more than necessary.

Did you use paper trading before going live or did you start with real money and learn the hard way like I did?

The API permission security point extends beyond Cryptohopper. The habit of granting minimal necessary permissions on crypto API keys and reviewing connected applications periodically is worth building regardless of which platform you use. A compromised Cryptohopper account with withdrawal-enabled API keys is a very different risk profile from one with trade-only keys. The extra thirty seconds of setup is worth it every time.

API key permissions being set up incorrectly is the most common first-time mistake I see and you've named it well. The other one that catches people out is the coin selection being too broad. Starting with too many trading pairs means the bot's attention gets spread thin and signal quality drops. I'd recommend starting with three to five coins you know well rather than letting the bot trade everything available on the exchange until you understand how the strategy performs.

The capital allocation mistake is compounded by the fact that Cryptohopper's default configuration is often set to percentages rather than fixed amounts, and if you do not read those defaults carefully you can end up with allocation logic that makes sense at one portfolio size and becomes dangerously concentrated at another. When you scale up your total portfolio without adjusting the percentage allocation settings, the per-trade and per-bot capital exposure scales with it automatically.
