Framer has a built-in CMS and I did not realize that meant I never needed to touch the site again after launch

When I built our startup's website in Framer I was focused on the AI generation and the design tools. I did not pay much attention to the CMS feature until three months after launch when I needed to add a blog and expected to go back into the design editor to manually create a new page each time.

The built-in CMS works differently. You set up a content database once and connect it to a page template. From that point adding a new blog post, case study or portfolio item means filling in a form rather than touching the design at all. The connected pages update automatically. For a founder who is not a designer and does not want to break something every time they add content, that separation between design and content management is the thing that makes Framer practically sustainable long-term.

The collaborative workspace is the other feature I want to mention specifically. My designer built the site and I needed to be able to request changes and review them without either of us sending files back and forth or me trying to describe edits over email. Comments left directly on the design canvas with context about what I was looking at changed that completely. Review rounds that used to take a week of back-and-forth got compressed.

The responsive design handling across desktop, tablet and mobile is automatic through the Auto Layout and Stacks system. I have not once had to think about how something looks on mobile separately from how it looks on desktop.

SEO and performance are handled technically without configuration. Meta tags, sitemaps, lazy loading, CDN, all done.

The CMS separation of design from content management is exactly how websites should work and very few visual website builders have implemented it this cleanly. The fact that you discovered it three months after launch speaks to how underemphasized it is in the onboarding. Framer should lead with this feature for small business owners and founders who need to update their own content.

The collaborative comment design review within Framer being the workflow that eliminated the external communication round trip for design feedback is worth naming as a specific time saving rather than a general convenience. A design change request that goes designer-client-email-designer-implement-send back for review takes days. The same change requested through a comment directly on the design element in Framer can be addressed in the same working session. The proximity of feedback to the thin...

The post-launch maintenance being the underappreciated part of website tool selection is the insight that most comparisons miss because they focus on the build experience rather than the operational experience. The tool you build with and the tool you maintain with can have very different quality ratios. Framer's CMS making the ongoing maintenance accessible to non-designers without touching the design layer solves the long-term sustainability problem that many visually impressive sites built in...
