Canva AI is now a completely different product, what's new and what's actually useful
I've been using Canva for years for basic stuff, social posts, simple presentations, the occasional flyer. Went back in recently for a project and realized I'd been missing a whole layer of AI features that have appeared. Worth documenting what's actually there now.
The AI tools live in the left sidebar under "Canva AI," "Magic Studio," or "Dream Lab" depending on where you're looking. The interface is chat-based now, you type prompts or use voice commands.
Dream Lab is the image generation side. Good for creating custom visuals you can't find in stock libraries. Describe what you want and it generates options you can use directly in designs.
Magic Write handles copy, social captions, presentation text, email drafts. It's contextual, meaning it looks at what you're designing and tries to write relevant content rather than just generic output.
Magic Design is probably the most useful for non-designers: give it a prompt or upload your assets and it suggests complete design layouts. Less time staring at a blank canvas.
There's also background removal, image expansion (fill out the edges of a photo), and a translation tool that works across the whole design.
For anyone who uses Canva regularly and hasn't explored the AI features yet, it's worth an hour to go through what's available now. The tool has changed significantly.
