The RTC prompt formula changed my ChatGPT outputs immediately

The RTC framework is Role, Task, Context. Instead of asking write me a product description you specify who the AI is speaking as, exactly what you need it to produce, and the relevant context about your audience, product and constraints. The output difference is immediate and noticeable.

Do you use any structured prompt frameworks or do you mostly improvise?

The Role specification being the most impactful component of the RTC formula is my experience too. Specifying that ChatGPT should respond as a senior technical writer rather than a generic assistant changes the vocabulary, the assumed knowledge level of the audience and the structural conventions of the output in ways that are immediately visible. The Task and Context refine within that framing. The Role sets the register and expertise level that everything else builds on.

Structured prompt frameworks are worth learning for a specific reason that goes beyond the immediate quality improvement: they build the habit of thinking clearly about what you actually want before you ask. Most poor AI outputs are downstream of unclear requests. The discipline of articulating the Role, Task and Context before submitting forces you to think through the request properly. That clarity of thought produces better outputs even when the specific framework is not applied rigidly.
