Gemini plugged directly into my Gmail and Drive and now my morning review takes half as long
I want to write about the Google Workspace integration specifically because I think it is the thing that makes Gemini genuinely different from other general-purpose AI assistants for people already in the Google ecosystem.
The built-in extensions connect Gemini directly to Gmail, Drive, Docs, Maps and YouTube without any setup. I ask it to summarize unread emails from a specific sender this week and it does it. I ask it to find the most recent version of a document about a specific topic in my Drive and it surfaces it. I ask it to pull the key points from a meeting recording in Drive and it reads the audio and gives me the summary.
Those are tasks I used to do manually and they add up. My morning email and document review has meaningfully shortened because I am getting structured summaries rather than scanning everything myself.
The File Analysis for uploaded content works alongside this. PDFs, spreadsheets, audio recordings can all be dropped in for instant summarization or Q and A. When I have a long report to read before a meeting I upload it and ask for the three things most relevant to the agenda items I have set.
The model selection between Fast, Thinking and Pro lets you route tasks appropriately. Quick email summaries go to Fast. Anything requiring multi-step reasoning or analysis of complex documents goes to Pro or Thinking.
The memory feature that retains preferences and past interaction context is the part that compounds over time. The more you use it the more it understands how you work and what you need.
