Granola is an AI meeting notepad for people who want useful notes without adding a visible bot to the call. On macOS and Windows, the desktop app captures the user's microphone and system audio when the user opens a meeting note or starts a new note. It works with meeting software such as Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack Huddles, Webex, and other services because capture happens at the device rather than through a platform-specific meeting bot. The user can type rough notes during the conversation, choose a template, or simply listen. When the meeting ends, Granola uses the transcript and any manual notes to create a structured summary that can be edited, regenerated, searched, shared, and queried through Granola Chat. Notes are private by default. Shared folders, a Team space, People and Companies records, custom templates, reusable Chat Recipes, speaker labels, multi-language transcription, follow-up outputs, and cross-meeting questions can turn a collection of calls into searchable work memory. Granola also offers native or connected routes to Slack, Notion, HubSpot, Attio, Affinity, Zapier, Gmail, a public API, and Model Context Protocol. The exact access depends on plan, workspace settings, account type, and platform. The free Basic plan costs $0 and supports unlimited AI meeting notes, Chat, shared folders, templates, and multiple languages, but only the most recent 30 days of notes are accessible in the app. Older notes are retained rather than deleted and become accessible again after upgrading. Business costs $14 per user per month, removes the history limit, adds manual selection of standard and thinking models, advanced integrations, API access, and broader MCP access. Enterprise starts at $35 per user per month and adds SSO, admin policies, usage analytics, sharing and API controls, organization-wide retention settings, priority support, and training controls. Granola says annual plans are not currently available, so these prices use monthly billing. Granola is available on macOS, Windows, iPhone, Android, and Apple Watch. Desktop is the strongest route for virtual calls. Mobile is designed mainly for in-person meetings because iOS and Android cannot capture audio from other mobile meeting apps. The iPhone app can also take notes on outbound calls made through Granola, while Android does not currently offer phone-call capture. Granola Chat is available on iPhone but not Android or iPad, and several management, template, folder, integration, and calendar settings still require desktop. Apple Watch support requires a paired iPhone, the latest Granola iPhone app, and watchOS 11 or later. The Watch app can record offline, then sync the audio to the iPhone for upload and note generation. Granola does not retain meeting audio after transcription, but it stores transcripts, notes, account data, and connected-workspace data in US-hosted AWS infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Notes and transcripts are retained indefinitely unless deleted or covered by a configured retention policy. Individual users can set transcript auto-deletion from one day to one year, while Enterprise admins can enforce a workspace policy. Deleting a transcript is irreversible and reduces note regeneration and Chat quality because only the remaining note is available. Granola says third-party model providers are not permitted to train on customer data. Granola may use anonymized data to improve its own models unless the user opts out, and Enterprise workspaces have training disabled by default. One paid Chat model, Fable 5, is not covered by zero data retention, and Anthropic retains its input-output logs for 30 days for trust and safety. Granola holds SOC 2 Type II certification and says it supports GDPR and UK GDPR with a DPA, but all data is currently stored in the United States. It is not HIPAA compliant, cannot sign a BAA, is not FERPA compliant, and does not currently offer ISO 27001 certification. Granola's bot-free design reduces call clutter but does not remove consent obligations. Users are responsible for applicable recording, transcription, privacy, employment, client, and company rules. Granola offers optional chat notices and a video watermark for supported desktop meeting platforms, while the Apple Watch app plays an audible chime and provides a haptic indication when recording starts and stops. AI summaries, speaker labels, briefs, follow-up drafts, Chat answers, and action items can still be incomplete or wrong, so important decisions and commitments should be checked against the transcript and participants. Granola is best for founders, consultants, product researchers, salespeople, recruiters, managers, and teams that spend significant time in meetings and want a quieter, device-based capture workflow. It is less suitable for regulated health or education records, organizations requiring regional data residency, teams that need a visible meeting bot, users who want full mobile parity, or buyers who need guaranteed transcript accuracy and automatic consent compliance.
