If you make YouTube videos or podcasts you know the background music problem. Stock music libraries are either expensive, limited, or instantly recognizable because everyone's using the same tracks. I've been experimenting with AI music generation for a while and Beatoven.ai is the most practical one I've found so far for actual workflow use.

You sign in with Google (no friction, took 30 seconds). It asks you about your use case, YouTube, podcasts, what kind of content, which helps it calibrate suggestions. Then you're into the generator.

The prompt-based generation is the main feature. You describe the mood and style you want and it builds a track. What's actually useful is that you can go back and tweak specific sections, change the energy in the second half, shift the mood, rather than just regenerating everything from scratch each time. That level of control matters when you're trying to fit music to a specific video edit.

Everything it generates is royalty-free, which is the whole point. For YouTube monetization that's not a small thing.

It's not going to replace a composer for anything that needs real emotional nuance. But for background tracks on tutorials, vlogs, or podcast intros it's genuinely usable and the free account gets you started without a credit card.

The "almost" qualification in the title is the honest note that makes this review credible. AI-generated music has a specific quality ceiling that it is approaching but has not fully crossed. Completely agree on the section editing being the differentiator. I tried four or five AI music tools before landing on Beatoven and the others all treated the track as one thing you either accepted or regenerated. Being able to dial down the energy in the last thirty seconds for a podcast outro without changing the whole track is genuinely useful.
