The important Glide story in 2026 is not another no-code feature. It is that Glide rebuilt its core product around AI software development and made that new product separate from the platform people already knew.
GlideOS is now the product on glideapps.com. Glide Classic still exists, but it is a different product with different subscriptions, apps and pricing. That distinction matters because a large amount of current search traffic, tutorials and reviews still describe the Classic builder. A buyer can easily read a recent-looking article, see an Explorer or Maker plan, and assume those limits apply to GlideOS. They do not. In late August, Glide changed the flow again so users can connect real business data before the first mockup. That is a meaningful product decision because it moves the feedback loop earlier. The user can reject a wrong interpretation before spending more credits and before a large generated application has to be unwound.
The WhatAI recommendation is to treat that planning stage as a control point, not a formality. Confirm the entities, user roles, write permissions, calculations and irreversible actions before clicking Build. A visually plausible mockup can still be architecturally wrong.
Apps, Workflows and Integrations Are Becoming One System
GlideOS has expanded quickly since public access opened in July. The current platform combines apps, shared project data, integrations, workflows and AI inside one environment. Glide says integrations can connect to more than 1,000 tools. Workflows can be triggered manually, on a schedule, through a webhook, or from another trigger, and each workflow exposes its steps and run history.
That observability is more important than the raw number of integrations. An automation platform becomes useful when a team can answer basic operational questions: What triggered this run? What data did it read? What did it change? Did it retry? Why did it fail? GlideOS puts workflow steps and run history inside the project instead of hiding all automation behind a single AI instruction.
For a business replacing spreadsheet handoffs, this can reduce a common source of fragmentation. The data, the interface and the process automation can live in one project rather than across a spreadsheet, a separate app builder and a separate automation service. That does not mean every workflow should be moved into Glide. A mature integration platform may still be better for cross-company automation, complex branching or broad connector governance. The useful question is whether keeping a workflow beside the app and its data makes the process easier to understand and maintain.
Bring Your Own Agent Is a Real 2026 Differentiator
One of GlideOS's most interesting changes is MCP access. Pro customers can connect an external agent such as ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor and allow that agent to work with GlideOS using the user's Glide permissions. The external agent can understand spreadsheets, create and edit apps, load data and maintain connections.
This changes GlideOS from being only a destination where a user opens another AI chat. It can become a software-building capability inside the agent a person already uses for work. If the agent already understands a project, has access to local files, or coordinates tasks across other tools, Glide can become the place where that context turns into a usable business application.
The permission model deserves attention. Glide now labels MCP actions so compatible clients can distinguish read-only, reversible and potentially destructive operations. That is the right direction, but it does not remove the need for approval boundaries. The GlideOS Terms make clear that AI Agents can create, modify and delete applications, data sources, columns, screens, actions and integrations when authorized. Those actions are performed on the user's behalf.
For WhatAI, that means MCP should be introduced in stages. Begin with one non-sensitive project, keep destructive actions approval-gated, review every permission the client requests, and test rollback. An agent that can build software is more useful than an agent that only explains software, but it also has a larger blast radius.
The September Pricing Reset Matters
GlideOS changed pricing on September 1, 2026. This is recent enough that many comparisons are already stale.
The current lineup is Free at $0, Basic at $25 per month, Plus at $50 per month, Pro at $125 per month, and Enterprise at custom pricing. Free is useful for exploration but does not include published apps. Basic includes two published apps and one enabled workflow. Plus expands to five published apps and five workflows and allows public publishing. Pro starts at five team members and adds unlimited published apps and workflows, premium integrations, MCP, organization-level roles and permissions, 24-hour backups and human support. Enterprise adds SSO, enterprise integrations, an organization-selected LLM provider, 30-day backups, stronger governance and support features.
The credits are the second half of the price. Basic includes 100, Plus 250, and Pro is displayed with 500 credits at the starting five-member configuration because each member contributes credits. Additional credit top-ups are limited by plan below Pro. The exact cost of a finished application therefore depends on the build pattern, not only the subscription.
This is why WhatAI should not reduce GlideOS to $25 app builder or $125 team plan. A useful evaluation metric is cost per stable production workflow or cost per app that the team actually keeps using. Repeated broad prompts, discarded builds and unnecessary AI calls can make a cheap plan expensive in practice. Reusing App Store projects, validating the plan first, using real data early and making targeted changes can improve the economics.
There is also a grandfathering issue. Glide says users on the previous Solo or Team GlideOS plans can remain on those plans until they choose to upgrade. That means two customers can be using GlideOS at the same time with different commercial structures. A screenshot from another user's account is not necessarily evidence of the plan a new buyer will receive.
Privacy Needs More Than a SOC 2 Badge
GlideOS has a serious business-software posture, but the AI data terms need to be read carefully.
The current GlideOS Privacy Policy says Glide collects prompts, instructions, conversations and AI or agent interaction history. It also says prompts, instructions and conversations, together with the structure, configuration and formulas of applications and spreadsheets, may be used to operate, maintain, improve, develop and train Glide's AI features and models. Glide says it does not use the specific data values or Personal Data contained within application data sources or spreadsheets to train those AI models.
The Terms add an important qualification: where an account type provides an AI-training opt-out and the customer uses it, future inputs covered by that choice are not used for training. The current public pricing table does not present that opt-out as a standard feature across plans, so WhatAI should not imply that every customer can disable training. Teams that need this should obtain the exact entitlement in writing before uploading proprietary build context.
That distinction matters because app structure itself can be sensitive. A company may keep personal customer values out of prompts while still revealing formulas, workflows, supplier relationships, process logic or internal operating patterns through the app configuration. The safe procurement question is not simply, does Glide train on my rows? It is, which parts of my prompts, project structure, formulas, generated content and telemetry can be used for improvement, on my exact plan and contract?
Glide also publishes explicit User Data Rules. Some categories are prohibited entirely, including unencrypted passwords, payment account numbers, HIPAA protected health information, data from children under 13 and specified sensitive personal information. Other categories are restricted to paid private applications. These limits should be checked before deciding architecture, not after an app has already been built around data that the platform rules do not permit.
Authentication Is a Platform Boundary
The current GlideOS Terms include an unusually direct rule about authentication. Customers must use Glide's native Access Controls to govern access to applications and user data. The Terms prohibit replacing those controls with a custom login, conditional-column workaround, embedded third-party authentication flow or other home-built substitute.
This can be a benefit when the goal is to keep authorization inside a supported security model. It is also a constraint for teams that expect to design their own identity layer. Advanced authentication and granular permissions depend on plan. Enterprise adds SSO and project-level governance. Before a build begins, the team should map its identity requirements against the exact Glide plan rather than assuming authentication can be customized later with generated code.
The same principle applies to agent actions. A generated app is not secure because the interface looks private. The authorization rules, user roles, data visibility and workflow permissions have to be correct. Glide's native controls are therefore part of the product decision, not an optional implementation detail.
GlideOS Versus Glide Classic
The two-product structure is likely to remain a source of confusion for some time. Glide Classic is the established visual no-code platform. GlideOS is the new AI-first product. They coexist, but the apps, subscriptions and pricing are separate.
That makes older Glide reviews useful only for specific context. They can still show what the company has historically been good at, including spreadsheet-connected business apps and polished responsive interfaces. They should not be used as evidence for current GlideOS pricing, credit rules, MCP access or the new AI builder architecture.
The separation also means an existing Glide Classic customer should not assume a seamless commercial or technical migration just because both products share the Glide brand. If migration matters, test a representative app and data source inside GlideOS and document what must be rebuilt, reconnected or re-permissioned.
Where GlideOS Fits Best
GlideOS is strongest when a business process already exists and is being held together by spreadsheets, forms, email and manual status chasing. Inventory, procurement, work orders, field operations, internal CRM, vendor management, dashboards and portals all fit the pattern because the core data and repeated work are visible.
It is also appealing to small operations teams that need custom software but do not want to maintain a conventional codebase. Glide handles deployment, app hosting and much of the application infrastructure, while the team can continue changing the product conversationally.
The fit becomes weaker when the buyer needs unrestricted source-code ownership, a highly custom software architecture, a native consumer app-store product, unsupported regulated data, custom authentication, or engineering control over every layer of the stack. Enterprise now includes the ability to view code and project files, but that should not be confused with a promise that the entire application can be exported and operated independently. Portability requirements need explicit validation before commitment.
The WhatAI Verdict
GlideOS is more interesting than a normal prompt-to-app generator because the product is trying to keep the business system visible after generation. Plans, mockups, real data, inspectable calculations, workflow steps, run histories, native access controls, integrations and MCP permissions all give the user places to verify what the AI built.
That does not make the output automatically correct. The platform is still changing quickly, credits create an incentive to plan before rebuilding, AI Agents can take destructive actions when authorized, and the privacy terms require real procurement attention. The September pricing revision also shows how quickly the commercial model can move while the product matures.
For the right team, the value is not that an app appears in minutes. It is that a process people already understand can become software without creating a second full-time engineering project. Start with one process, one source of truth, one user group and one measurable outcome. Verify the permissions and calculations, run the workflow under real conditions, then expand only when the app is still understandable after the novelty of the first build is gone.
