Scite's Saved Settings for search filters is the small quality-of-life update that changes how often you use the advanced filters

The Scite saved filter settings update covers a feature that sounds minor and is not. Creating, naming and saving custom filter configurations tailored to specific research tasks rather than reconfiguring filters every time your research focus changes is the difference between using advanced filters regularly and using them occasionally when you remember. For researchers who use Scite across multiple distinct research domains, a systematic review filter set and an exploratory literature search filter set being saved separately means the right filter configuration is one click rather than a five-step manual setup. That friction reduction changes how consistently you use the appropriate filter depth for each research session. The ability to toggle saved settings on and off is the rapid mode switching that makes the feature useful during a session rather than only between sessions. Moving from a focused systematic review filter to a broader exploratory filter within the same research… Read full discussion →

Scite.ai shows you whether papers are supported or contradicted by later research and that changes how you read citations

The way academic citations typically work is that you see a paper cited and you take it at face value as support for the claim being made. What you do not know without doing a lot of additional work is whether subsequent research has supported that finding, contradicted it, or flagged concerns about it. Scite.ai is built around making that information visible without the additional work. The Smart Citation system classifies every citation of a paper as Supporting, Mentioning or Contrasting based on the content of the citing paper. The browser extension surfaces these badges directly on search engines and publisher sites as you browse, so you see the citation health of a paper in context rather than having to look it up separately. When I am evaluating whether to cite something or how much weight to give a finding, that distribution tells me something important that a simple citation… Read full discussion →

Scite's Citation Statements show you the actual sentence where a paper was cited and that changed how I evaluate sources

One specific feature post because I think the Citation Statements capability is more useful than people realize when they first hear the description. When a paper is cited by another paper, the citation usually tells you that paper B references paper A. What it does not tell you is what paper B actually said about paper A. Did it confirm the finding? Qualify it? Challenge it? Cite it as background only? The citation count tells you a paper is influential. It tells you nothing about whether that influence is positive or contested. Scite's Citation Statements provide the exact sentence from the citing paper where the original research is mentioned. Not just the classification as supporting or contrasting, but the verbatim context. You can read what subsequent researchers actually wrote about a paper's findings rather than inferring it from a label. I use this when I am deciding how much weight… Read full discussion →

I keep citing papers that later turn out to be disputed, is scite.ai the fix?

I’m doing more serious writing/research and I’m sick of the same problem: I cite a paper because it’s famous / highly cited… then later I discover it’s controversial, contradicted, or heavily qualified by newer work. I’m looking at scite.ai because it shows citation statements + labels like supporting/contrasting/mentioning, so you can sanity-check whether a claim is being upheld or debated. Questions for scite users: - Does it meaningfully reduce “bad citations” in your reference list? - Do you rely on it for screening sources, or just as a second-pass check? - Is it good across disciplines, or only strong in certain fields? - Any tips for using the extension with Google Scholar / PubMed style browsing?
