Trust isn't a technological milestone; it's a sociological one (https://www.swissre.com/institute/research/topics-and-risk-dialogues/digital-and-technology/ai-and-insurance.html). We will trust AI without supervision exactly when the insurance industry figures out how to price the risk of its failures. When an AI makes a mistake, someone has to make the victim whole. Once actuaries can confidently say, 'This AI will cause $X in damages per year, which we can cover with a $Y premium, ' businesses...

The trust question is inseparable from the accountability question. We trust human professionals because there's a system of accountability, licensing, liability, professional standards, malpractice.
