Manychat in 2026: Automate the Conversation, Not the Relationship

Manychat can turn comments and DMs into structured marketing journeys, but the useful metric is not messages sent. It is whether social engagement becomes a qualified conversation, an owned contact or a measurable customer outcome.

By WhatAI Editorial ·

Manychat is easy to misunderstand because the visible action is so simple.

Someone comments on an Instagram post.

A direct message appears automatically.

That looks like the product.

It is only the trigger.

The useful product is everything that can happen after the trigger.

Deliver the promised resource. Ask a relevant question. Capture an email address. Understand the customer's intent. Answer a common question. Tag the contact. Route a high-value lead to a person. Send the right follow-up while the platform allows it. Measure whether the conversation created a booking, a lead or a sale.

That is why Manychat belongs under Marketing rather than being treated as a generic chatbot.

The central job is turning social engagement into a customer journey.

Manychat has been doing that for years across Facebook Messenger and Instagram, and its current platform also includes TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email depending on plan and geography.

The 2026 product is materially different from older Manychat reviews because pricing, AI packaging and channel capabilities changed.

Those changes make freshness unusually important.

The March 2026 pricing change is fundamental

Manychat introduced a new pricing model on March 2, 2026.

Older Manychat pricing was often discussed in terms of total stored contacts. The new model is built around Active Contacts.

An Active Contact is someone who actually interacts with the business through Manychat during the current billing month. They might send a DM, comment on a post, reply to a story or engage with an automation.

The important point is that an inactive person from two years ago does not keep inflating the bill simply because their record remains in the database.

That is a more intuitive relationship between usage and price.

It also changes the risk.

A post can go viral. Ten thousand people can comment. Those ten thousand people can become Active Contacts during the month.

The campaign can therefore create a larger bill at the exact moment it succeeds.

That is not necessarily bad. A profitable campaign should be allowed to scale.

The mistake is scaling without knowing the economics.

Manychat now gives users warnings as they approach the included Active Contact allowance and lets paid accounts set an overage threshold.

Use it.

A viral Reel should create a deliberate decision about extra spend. It should not create surprise billing.

The right Manychat metric is cost per useful conversation.

Suppose Pro costs thirty-nine dollars on monthly billing and includes 2,500 Active Contacts. If those conversations produce two hundred email leads and twenty sales, the economics can be excellent.

If they produce 2,500 automated DMs that nobody values, the contact allowance was cheap and the campaign was still a waste.

Follower count is not the unit of value. Messages sent is not the unit of value. Active Contacts is not the final unit of value either.

Qualified leads, bookings, sales, retention and owned audience growth are closer to the business outcome.

The five-plan structure is clearer than the old pricing

The current model has Free, Essential, Pro, Business and Advanced.

Free includes only twenty-five Active Contacts per month, up to four active automations, two eligible channels, one user and Manychat branding.

Manychat itself now describes that tier as a place to test and learn. That is the correct expectation.

Twenty-five active conversations can prove that the trigger works. It is not enough for a meaningful social funnel once the account has real engagement.

Essential costs seventeen dollars per month or fourteen dollars per month on annual billing.

It includes 250 Active Contacts, unlimited custom automations, contact capture, tags, two users and a basic Inbox.

The limitation is channel breadth.

Essential uses the same core eligible social channels as Free and does not unlock WhatsApp, SMS or email as selectable messaging channels.

Pro is the practical creator and small-business tier.

It costs thirty-nine dollars monthly or twenty-nine dollars on annual billing. The allowance rises to 2,500 Active Contacts.

The account can choose any three supported channels from Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email.

Broadcasts and AI-powered conversations arrive here.

Business costs ninety-nine dollars monthly or sixty-nine dollars annually.

It includes 7,500 Active Contacts, unlimited eligible channels, five users, three Inbox seats, team assignment and priority support.

Advanced costs one hundred ninety-nine dollars monthly or one hundred thirty-nine dollars annually.

It includes 25,000 Active Contacts, ten users, five Inbox seats and the current higher-volume and API positioning.

That is a substantial range.

The correct plan is not the one with the most features.

It is the lowest plan that supports the real channels, contact volume and team workflow without expensive overage behavior.

AI is no longer a separate add-on under the current pricing

This is one of the most important 2026 documentation traps.

Some Manychat pages and older tutorials still say Manychat AI costs an additional twenty-nine dollars per month.

That was part of the older subscription structure.

Manychat's current August 2026 pricing explainer explicitly says this is no longer how new pricing works.

AI-powered automation is included in Pro.

Pro is twenty-nine dollars per month on annual billing or thirty-nine dollars on monthly billing.

No extra twenty-nine-dollar AI fee is required under the current new pricing model.

Why does the old information still exist?

Migration.

Manychat is gradually moving pre-March-2026 accounts to the new pricing by region.

Some legacy customers can genuinely still see an older plan or AI add-on structure.

This means two screenshots can both be real while describing different account generations.

WhatAI should therefore separate the general current pricing from account-specific billing.

For a new account, use the new pricing. For an older workspace, use the billing screen inside that workspace.

Manychat is actively updating stale help content, but the transition is still visible.

Manychat AI should be treated as several tools, not one universal capability

The current AI platform includes AI Replies, AI Comments, AI Goals, AI Knowledge, AI Behavior, AI-assisted flow building, text improvement, intention recognition and AI Step capabilities.

The marketing page can make this feel like one intelligence layer available everywhere.

The feature documentation is more nuanced.

Some AI skills remain channel-specific. AI Replies has had Instagram-only availability in current help documentation. AI Comments is also Instagram-specific and beta. Intention Recognition supports a broader set of channels.

The exact availability changes as Manychat ships features.

This matters because a buyer should not design a WhatsApp or TikTok strategy from an Instagram AI demo.

The useful pattern is to define the job first.

A deterministic flow is still better for known, sensitive logic.

If someone asks for the price, the automation should send the approved price.

If someone requests a refund, the system should follow the actual refund policy.

If a compliance disclosure is required, it should not be improvised.

AI becomes useful where human language is variable.

The customer asks the same product question five different ways. They need help deciding which product category fits. They make a positive comment that deserves a natural response. They ask a common question the flow designer did not anticipate.

That is where AI can reduce branching.

The best Manychat implementation is not AI everywhere.

It is deterministic where the business already knows the answer and flexible where language creates unnecessary complexity.

Comment-to-DM is still the defining workflow

Instagram comment automation remains the clearest Manychat use case.

The creator publishes a post or Reel with a call to action.

Comment a keyword.

Manychat sees the qualifying interaction.

The automation sends a DM.

The customer receives a resource, link, question or offer.

This solves a real scale problem.

A creator with ten comments can reply manually. A creator with ten thousand cannot.

The danger is optimizing for the automation rather than the customer.

A direct message should feel like the promised next step.

If the post says comment GUIDE and I will send the checklist, the first job is to send the checklist.

Do not create seven messages of artificial suspense before delivering what was promised.

Do not force five qualification questions for a free resource.

Do not treat every comment as permission for an aggressive sales sequence.

Automation should make the interaction more responsive, not more extractive.

A good social funnel gives value first. Then it creates a reason to continue.

Lead capture is where Manychat can reduce dependence on the social platform

A creator can have a large following and still not own the relationship.

Instagram controls the account. TikTok controls the account. Platform reach changes. Policies change. Accounts can be restricted.

Manychat cannot remove that dependency.

It can help move valuable relationships into channels the business controls more directly.

Collect an email address. Collect a phone number where the user has consented. Push the record into Google Sheets, HubSpot, Kit, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign or another downstream system.

Now the social interaction has created an owned contact.

That is one of the strongest reasons to use comment-to-DM automation.

The goal is not to trap the customer in a chatbot.

The goal is to make the social platform a useful entry point into the broader customer lifecycle.

Manychat's Google Sheets integration is especially accessible.

A creator can capture a name and email in the conversation, save it to a sheet and use the same fields for later routing or analysis.

More mature teams can push the contact into CRM or lifecycle software.

The key is consent and purpose.

Collect data because it improves the relationship.

Do not collect extra information simply because a Custom Field exists.

Follow to DM is powerful and still not a foundation to depend on

Manychat's Follow to DM feature is one of the most attractive Instagram automations.

A person follows the account.

Manychat sends a personalized welcome automatically.

That sounds like every new follower can become a direct conversation.

The feature is still beta.

Meta controls eligibility.

Buying a higher Manychat plan does not unlock it.

Some accounts can use it and others cannot.

The beta also includes anti-spam constraints.

A user can receive only one Follow to DM message per week across participating accounts.

The feature triggers only once per follower.

And the opening message does not create a normal ongoing messaging window until the user interacts with it through a qualifying reply or button.

This is exactly the kind of feature that should be treated as upside rather than infrastructure.

If the account has it, use it thoughtfully.

If the account loses eligibility or never receives it, the lead-generation strategy should still work through comments, stories, keywords and inbound DMs.

A good marketing system survives a beta changing.

Platform messaging windows are a hard boundary

Manychat is an official Meta Business Partner.

That is meaningful.

It uses the approved platform infrastructure.

It does not give Manychat authority to rewrite Meta's rules.

Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp all operate around a twenty-four-hour automated messaging window after the user's latest interaction.

Within that window, the business can continue a relevant automated conversation.

After it closes, normal automated promotional messaging becomes restricted.

Instagram and Messenger can provide a seven-day human-agent window for manual replies.

That does not mean the bot can continue the same automated sales sequence for seven days.

WhatsApp uses approved Message Templates in situations where outbound communication is permitted outside the normal service window.

Those templates can create additional Meta charges.

The correct automation architecture begins with these rules.

Do not build a six-day automated Instagram follow-up sequence and then look for a trick to send it.

Use email for longer nurturing after the user opts in.

Use the platform-specific permitted mechanisms.

Use a human where the human-agent window applies.

Manychat helps enforce some of these limits inside the product.

The business still needs to understand why the limits exist.

TikTok is useful and much more constrained than Instagram

Manychat's TikTok integration is now a real channel, but it should not be described as Instagram automation copied onto TikTok.

Current Manychat documentation requires a TikTok Business account.

Personal and Creator accounts are not supported.

The integration is also unavailable to accounts in the EU and UK under the current geographic rollout.

The messaging behavior is different.

TikTok allows up to ten messages within forty-eight hours after the latest user interaction without requiring another response.

After forty-eight hours, the user must restart the conversation.

Links inside TikTok DMs are not clickable in the same way many marketers expect, so they can require copy-and-open behavior.

Some media and button formats are limited.

These constraints do not make TikTok automation useless.

They change the design.

Use TikTok for the interactions TikTok currently supports.

Do not promise a feature because Manychat supports it on Instagram.

Channel breadth is valuable only when the workflow respects the channel.

WhatsApp adds real messaging cost beyond the subscription

WhatsApp is another important pricing caveat.

A Manychat Pro, Business or Advanced account can include WhatsApp as an eligible channel.

The Manychat subscription does not absorb every WhatsApp message fee.

Meta charges for certain WhatsApp template messages based on destination country and message category.

The exact rates change and vary by market.

Manychat uses a Wallet mechanism for template charges.

This means the correct WhatsApp budget has at least two layers.

Manychat platform cost.

WhatsApp messaging cost.

SMS has a similar two-provider structure.

Manychat connects to Twilio.

Twilio charges separately for messages.

This is not unusual.

It is important because a plan comparison that says unlimited channels can be misunderstood as unlimited free messaging.

Unlimited channel access and free downstream messaging are different things.

The shared Inbox is where automation becomes a team system

Manychat is often evaluated as a bot builder.

At higher volume, the Inbox matters just as much.

Some conversations should not remain automated.

A customer is angry. A high-value buyer asks a specific question. A refund needs judgment. A complex support issue appears. A partnership enquiry arrives.

The automation should recognize that the conversation needs a person and route it.

Business includes a shared team Inbox and conversation assignment.

Advanced expands the team capacity further.

This changes Manychat from an individual automation tool into part of the operating process.

A lead can be tagged. A team member can own it. A reminder can be set. The conversation history remains visible.

The useful metric is not automation containment.

It is correct resolution.

A system that forces every customer to stay with the bot can report a wonderful automation rate and create a terrible customer experience.

Human handoff is not failure.

It is one of the outputs the automation should be designed to produce.

The API boundary now matters more because of Advanced

Manychat's current new pricing positions API access on the Advanced tier.

That tier starts at one hundred ninety-nine dollars on monthly billing or one hundred thirty-nine dollars per month on an annual contract.

For a high-volume operator, the price can be reasonable because Advanced includes 25,000 Active Contacts and lower overage rates.

For a small technical team that only wants API access, the jump can feel large.

This is an important buying question.

Do you need Manychat's API, or can the workflow be completed through its native integrations, Zapier, Make, Google Sheets or HubSpot?

If the API is the only Advanced requirement, calculate its actual value.

Do not upgrade for the idea of programmatic access.

Upgrade because the programmatic workflow exists.

Legacy accounts can have different API access because the pricing migration is not universal.

Again, the account billing and feature screen wins over a generalized article.

Security is mature enough for business procurement, but compliance remains a workflow issue

Manychat currently documents ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification and a CSA STAR listing.

It is also an official Meta Business Partner.

The security page describes encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access controls, regular backups, external penetration testing and incident-response procedures.

Those are meaningful signals.

The ISO 42001 certification is particularly relevant because Manychat now operates AI features that can answer and act inside customer conversations.

Governance matters.

A certified AI management system does not make every AI campaign compliant.

The business still chooses what the AI may say.

The business chooses the source knowledge.

The business decides which personal information is collected.

The business controls the campaign purpose.

The business remains responsible for consent, marketing law and platform policy.

Security controls protect the system.

Campaign governance protects the relationship.

Manychat's AI privacy position needs precise wording

It would be inaccurate to say Manychat never uses AI inputs to improve anything.

Its current AI Supplementary Terms say Manychat may collect and use AI interaction data, including Input and Output, to provide, maintain, improve, modify and develop its AI Features.

The same Terms contain another important protection.

Manychat says it contractually restricts third-party AI Providers from using Manychat User Generated Content to train or otherwise improve those providers' services for general use.

Those are two different statements.

Manychat itself may use AI interaction data to improve the Manychat AI product.

The external provider is contractually restricted from training its general service on that customer content.

This distinction matters for a company feeding private customer conversations or internal business knowledge into AI tools.

Manychat's general Privacy Policy also distinguishes between personal data it processes for its own purposes and data it handles as a processor under customer instructions.

Current subprocessors include AWS, Snowflake, Twilio, Microsoft and Zendesk among others.

A regulated business should review the DPA and service-provider list before large-scale deployment.

The review evidence is strong and unusually split by source

Capterra currently lists Manychat at 4.6 out of 5 from seventy-two reviews.

Ease of use is 4.4.

Customer service is 4.0.

The reviews repeatedly praise the accessible visual builder, social-channel automation and ability to create flows without coding.

G2 also provides a broadly positive picture around ease of setup, automation and social messaging.

The more difficult feedback includes advanced-feature complexity, pricing and support.

Trustpilot looks much worse.

Its current profile has a far lower rating from a larger consumer-style review sample and contains recurring complaints about support responsiveness, billing, cancellation, bugs and automations not behaving as expected.

WhatAI should not average these platforms into one artificial score.

They capture different populations and review behavior.

Instead, use the disagreement to design the trial.

Can support resolve a billing question clearly?

Can you see how Active Contacts are counted?

Can you set the overage threshold?

Does the automation recover after a channel reconnect?

Can you export the lead data you need?

Can a teammate take over a conversation?

Those questions turn review complaints into a buying test.

The new affiliate program is strong

Manychat runs its current partner program through PartnerStack.

Affiliates with zero to thirty paid referrals receive thirty percent recurring commission for the first twelve months of the referred customer's paid relationship.

Thirty-one to two hundred paid referrals moves the partner to forty percent.

Two hundred one or more moves to fifty percent.

A successful referral currently needs to sign up through the affiliate link and upgrade to Pro within ninety days.

The program pays monthly and supports Stripe or PayPal through PartnerStack.

For WhatAI, Manychat is commercially attractive.

The product also fits the audience naturally because creators and marketers increasingly need social automation.

That commercial fit must remain separate from editorial ranking.

A thirty to fifty percent revenue share is not evidence that Manychat is better than Chatfuel, respond.io or another platform.

The workflow fit decides that.

Manychat versus Chatfuel

Chatfuel is one of the closest comparisons.

Both products automate conversations across major messaging channels.

Both serve marketing, lead-generation and support workflows.

Manychat's strongest identity is creator and social marketing automation, particularly Instagram comment-to-DM workflows and a large no-code ecosystem.

Chatfuel has increasingly leaned into WhatsApp and AI sales automation.

The comparison should use one real journey.

Comment on Instagram.

Receive the DM.

Answer an unexpected question.

Capture contact information.

Route to a human.

Trigger the next marketing system.

Measure setup time and reliability.

The winner is the one that produces the cleaner customer journey with less maintenance.

Manychat versus respond.io

respond.io is more naturally positioned around larger omnichannel teams and conversation management.

Manychat is stronger as a social marketing automation engine for creators and brands.

A company handling sales and support across many messaging channels with complex team routing may value respond.io's center of gravity.

A creator building Instagram lead-magnet funnels may reach useful results much faster with Manychat.

Again, the word omnichannel is not enough to choose.

The workflow and team structure matter.

A practical Manychat test

Start with one post.

Not the entire social account.

Create a useful lead magnet or product entry point.

Use a clear comment keyword.

Connect the Instagram account.

Build the simplest possible automation.

The comment triggers an opening DM.

The message clearly delivers what was promised.

If a follow-up interaction is required to open the proper messaging window, design it honestly.

Then collect one useful piece of contact data.

Usually email.

Sync it to Google Sheets or the current email system.

Tag the person by source.

Add one qualification question only if it changes the next action.

If the answer indicates real buying intent, route the conversation to a human.

Now publish.

Track the numbers.

Comments.

Active Contacts.

DM interactions.

Emails captured.

Qualified leads.

Bookings.

Purchases.

Manychat base price.

Overages.

Any channel fees.

Calculate cost per useful result.

That is enough to decide whether the automation works.

Only then add AI.

Let AI handle the frequently asked questions that would otherwise require more branches.

Keep the offer terms deterministic.

Only then add another channel.

This order avoids a common automation mistake.

Complexity arrives before proof.

Who should shortlist Manychat

Creators with active Instagram audiences are the clearest fit.

Coaches and educators can deliver lead magnets and route qualified prospects.

Ecommerce brands can answer product questions and move high-intent users toward purchase.

Agencies can build repeatable social funnels for clients.

Businesses with high DM volume can use the Inbox and team assignment to combine automation with human response.

TikTok and WhatsApp can broaden the system where those channels are available and commercially relevant.

Who should use something else

A business with almost no social engagement does not need a social DM automation platform.

A company whose primary workflow is website live chat should evaluate tools centered on web support.

A sales organization that needs deep pipeline management should choose a real CRM as the system of record and use Manychat only as an acquisition channel if appropriate.

A developer that mainly needs a programmable communications API may prefer more direct infrastructure.

And a business that wants unrestricted promotional messaging should understand that Manychat cannot remove platform policies designed to prevent exactly that.

The WhatAI view

Manychat earns its place when it converts social attention into a structured relationship.

A comment becomes a direct conversation.

The direct conversation becomes useful value.

The useful interaction can become an owned contact.

The right contact can become a qualified lead.

The right lead can reach a person.

That chain matters more than the automation itself.

The 2026 Active Contact model makes the economics easier to connect to engagement.

It also means successful campaigns need cost guardrails.

The current AI inclusion makes Pro more capable without another standard add-on.

It also creates a reason to be disciplined about where AI should speak.

Meta and TikTok still control the messaging rules.

Manychat controls the automation layer inside those rules.

Know what is available. Use only what earns a place in your workflow.

For Manychat, the platform earns its place when each automated message moves a real customer conversation toward a useful outcome without turning social engagement into spam.

ℹ️

WhatAI Decision Box

Best for:

Creators, ecommerce brands, agencies, coaches and social-first businesses that already receive meaningful comments and DMs and want to turn that engagement into automated lead capture, qualification, routing and sales follow-up.

Not for:

Businesses with little social-message volume, teams that need unrestricted outbound messaging outside platform windows, or organizations that primarily need a deep sales CRM rather than social conversation automation.

⇆ Often compared with

Chatfuel respond.io

ℹ️ WhatAI Field Note

  • The useful metric is cost per qualified conversation, captured lead or sale, not the number of automated messages sent. A simple comment-to-DM flow can outperform a sophisticated AI conversation if it moves more real buyers to the next step.
  • Manychat changed pricing on March 2, 2026 and is still migrating older accounts by region. Legacy accounts can show older contact-based plans or a separate AI add-on, so the live billing page for the specific account remains the purchase-level source of truth.

Manychat turns social engagement into automated direct-message journeys across Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, WhatsApp and other channels. Its 2026 pricing now follows monthly Active Contacts, while AI conversations are included on the current Pro tier and above.

Where Manychat Earns Its Place

Manychat is strongest when a creator or brand already receives meaningful comments and DMs and needs to turn that attention into qualified conversations, captured contact data and measurable next steps without manually answering every message.

The Platform Rules and Volume Trade-Off

Manychat can automate the workflow, but Meta and TikTok still control messaging windows, channel eligibility and platform rules. Active Contact overages also mean a viral post can create a larger one-month bill, so usage caps and conversion economics matter.

About Manychat

Manychat is a conversational and social marketing automation platform for turning comments, direct messages and messaging-channel engagement into structured customer journeys. It supports Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email, with no-code automations, broadcasts, lead capture, tags, a shared Inbox, integrations and AI-assisted conversations. Its current 2026 pricing is based on monthly Active Contacts rather than the size of a cumulative contact database, while Manychat AI is included on the current Pro, Business and Advanced plans. The platform is strongest for creators, ecommerce brands, agencies and social-first businesses that want to capture, qualify and route demand inside the messaging channels where audience engagement already happens.

Sudden engagement spikes can create monthly overage costs unless usage limits are configured

Channel breadth

👍 Pro

One platform can cover Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email at higher tiers

👎 Con

Every channel has different policy, pricing and technical limits, so omnichannel does not mean identical automation everywhere

Ease of use

👍 Pro

G2 and Capterra review samples consistently praise visual setup and accessible automation

👎 Con

Advanced workflows, billing and support issues create more friction as the implementation becomes larger

Affiliate program

👍 Pro

The official PartnerStack program pays 30% to 50% recurring commission for the first 12 months depending on referral tier

👎 Con

The strong commercial incentive makes transparent separation between editorial recommendations and affiliate economics important

How to Get Results with Manychat: Step-by-Step Workflow

  1. Choose one high-intent trigger

Start with a social interaction that already signals interest, such as a comment on a lead-magnet post, a keyword DM or a product question. Do not automate every possible comment simply because Manychat can.

  2. Pick one channel first

Build and measure the complete journey on the channel where demand already exists before connecting every supported network.

  3. Give value before asking

Make the opening message useful. Deliver the promised resource, answer the obvious question or clearly explain the next step before asking for more information.

  4. Create real conversation consent

Use the interaction patterns required by the channel so the user actively replies or taps an appropriate button and opens the valid messaging window. Do not design flows to evade platform anti-spam rules.

  5. Capture an owned contact

Where it improves the customer journey and consent is clear, collect email or phone information and sync it to Sheets, a CRM or the email platform. The goal is to avoid keeping the entire relationship trapped inside one social network.

  6. Tag intent and route it

Use tags or custom fields to distinguish curiosity, support, product interest and genuine buying intent. Send high-value conversations to the appropriate human or downstream system.

  7. Add AI only where variability exists

Use deterministic flows for known offers and compliance-sensitive steps. Use AI Replies or AI Goals for questions and conversational variation that would otherwise create excessive branching.

  8. Keep human handoff available

Define when the automation should stop and a person should take over, especially for complaints, unusual purchases, sensitive information and high-value sales opportunities.

  9. Measure conversion and contact cost

Track Active Contacts, captured leads, qualified conversations, appointments and purchases together. Calculate the Manychat base plan plus overages and channel fees per useful business outcome.

  10. Set an overage guardrail

Configure usage notifications and an overage threshold before scaling a campaign. A viral post should create a deliberate business decision about extra spend rather than an accidental surprise.

Manychat Gotchas and Limits to Know Before You Start

  • Manychat changed to an Active Contact pricing model for new accounts on March 2, 2026.
  • Accounts created before March 2, 2026 are being migrated gradually and can still show legacy plan structures depending on region.
  • The Free plan allows only 25 Active Contacts per month and is explicitly positioned by Manychat as a testing tier rather than a long-term business tier.
  • Essential and Pro have 14-day free trials, while Business and Advanced currently do not list free trials.
  • Active Contact allowances reset by billing month rather than accumulating as a permanent charge for old inactive contacts.
  • A viral post can rapidly increase Active Contacts and therefore create overage charges during that month.
  • Manychat provides usage notifications and overage controls, but users need to configure them intentionally.
  • Annual billing discounts the base subscription, while contact overages can still be billed monthly.
  • Current monthly plan prices are higher than the annual-equivalent prices displayed by default on the pricing page.
  • Current annual-equivalent prices are $14 Essential, $29 Pro, $69 Business and $139 Advanced.
  • Current month-to-month prices are $17 Essential, $39 Pro, $99 Business and $199 Advanced.
  • Under the new pricing model, Manychat AI is included on Pro and above rather than requiring a separate $29 AI add-on.
  • Legacy Manychat AI documentation can still describe a separate $29 add-on and may still apply to some not-yet-migrated accounts.
  • Manychat AI feature availability varies by channel; not every AI capability works across every connected channel.
  • AI Replies and AI Comments have had Instagram-specific availability in current feature documentation.
  • AI Comments remains a beta capability in current documentation.
  • Follow to DM is an Instagram beta controlled by Meta and is not available to every account.
  • Follow to DM eligibility is not unlocked by buying a more expensive Manychat plan.
  • Meta currently permits only one Follow to DM message per user per week across participating accounts.
  • The Follow to DM opening message does not create a full messaging window until the user replies or uses a qualifying interaction.
  • Meta controls the 24-hour automation window for Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.
  • The 7-day Messenger and Instagram human-agent window is for manual human replies rather than normal automated promotional flows.
  • WhatsApp messages outside the normal service window can require approved Message Templates and separate Meta charges.
  • WhatsApp template pricing varies by market and message category and should be budgeted separately from the Manychat plan.
  • SMS requires Twilio and creates separate Twilio messaging charges.
  • TikTok currently requires a Business account; Personal and Creator accounts are not supported by the current Manychat connection flow.
  • TikTok account connection is currently unavailable in the EU and UK under Manychat's documented geographic rollout.
  • TikTok has a 48-hour messaging window with up to 10 messages after the last user interaction under current integration rules.
  • Links inside TikTok DMs are not currently clickable in the same way as normal web buttons and can require copy-and-open behavior.
  • Manychat is an official Meta Business Partner, but it does not control Meta's account restrictions, messaging policies or reinstatement decisions.
  • Platform policy changes can break or alter an otherwise correctly configured automation.
  • Automations should not be designed to circumvent spam, consent or messaging-window rules.
  • API access is positioned on the Advanced tier under the current new pricing model; legacy or migrated account behavior can differ.
  • The current Advanced plan creates a large jump from Pro or Business for small teams that primarily need API access.
  • AI output may be inaccurate or non-unique under Manychat's own AI Terms.
  • Manychat may use AI interaction data to improve its own AI Features.
  • Manychat contractually restricts third-party AI providers from training their general services on Manychat User Generated Content.
  • The Privacy Policy distinguishes Manychat's own controller purposes from customer-service data it processes under customer instructions.
  • Manychat uses subprocessors including AWS, Snowflake, Twilio, Microsoft and Zendesk under its current service-provider list.
  • ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 42001 are meaningful controls but do not make every customer's messaging workflow legally compliant by default.
  • Consent, privacy and marketing-message laws vary by jurisdiction and remain the customer's responsibility.
  • Capterra currently shows a strong 4.6 rating from 72 reviews, but the sample includes older reviews and some incentivized reviews.
  • G2 also shows broadly positive usability and automation feedback, with recurring limitations around advanced complexity, feature depth and pricing.
  • Trustpilot presents a much more negative customer-service and billing sample than G2 or Capterra, so the sources should not be averaged into one synthetic star rating.
  • Recent negative public reviews frequently mention support response times, billing confusion or broken automations, which are useful items to test during the trial.
  • The affiliate program uses final referral attribution and a 90-day upgrade window rather than paying for every click or free signup.
  • Affiliate commission rates rise by lifetime paid referral count and apply for the referred customer's first 12 months under the current public terms.

Which Manychat Feature Fits Your Use Case

Feature Good for Common mistake Fix
Instagram comment-to-DM Turning high-intent comments into lead-magnet delivery, product discovery or qualification Triggering a generic sales DM on every comment regardless of intent Use a specific call-to-action keyword or context and deliver the promised value before asking for the next step
Follow to DM Welcoming eligible new Instagram followers and creating an early conversation opportunity Building a campaign that assumes every account is eligible Treat it as a Meta-controlled beta and maintain a comment, story or keyword path that works without the feature
Manychat AI Handling variable FAQs, positive comments and guided conversations without creating every branch manually Giving AI broad freedom to make offers, promises or policy decisions Ground the AI in approved business knowledge and keep deterministic flows around prices, compliance and consequential actions
Tags and Custom Fields Segmenting contacts by source, interest and intent Creating dozens of tags without a downstream decision tied to them Keep only fields that change routing, messaging, qualification or reporting
Shared Inbox Handing high-value or unusual conversations from automation to a real team member Measuring automation success only by how many conversations avoid a human Track whether the right conversations reach the right human quickly and with enough context
WhatsApp automation Lifecycle messaging and customer conversations where WhatsApp is a primary communication channel Budgeting only the Manychat subscription Include Meta template-message charges and the 24-hour messaging rules in campaign economics
TikTok automation Responding to eligible inbound TikTok DMs and structured message triggers Designing an Instagram-style flow without accounting for TikTok's account, region, link and 48-hour limitations Build specifically for TikTok's supported triggers and message behavior
Active Contact pricing Aligning cost more closely with people actually engaging during the month Ignoring overage exposure when a Reel or giveaway suddenly performs well Set the overage threshold and calculate cost per qualified lead before scaling the trigger

Starter Prompts for Manychat

Design an Instagram comment-to-DM Manychat flow for this lead magnet. Give the promised resource first, capture email with consent, tag the lead by source and send qualified replies to a human.
Audit this Manychat flow for Meta 24-hour rule risk, unnecessary messages, spam-like behavior, missing consent and places where a deterministic step is safer than AI.
Estimate which Manychat plan we need using our expected monthly Active Contacts, channels, users, Inbox seats, AI requirement and likely overage. Compare monthly and annual billing.
Create a Manychat AI knowledge and guardrail plan for our product FAQs. Separate questions AI may answer from prices, refunds, legal claims and high-value sales conversations that require deterministic or human handling.
Design a reporting framework for Manychat using Active Contacts, captured emails, qualified leads, booked calls, sales, overage cost and channel fees so we can calculate cost per useful conversation.

Manychat — Frequently Asked Questions

What is Manychat?

Manychat is a conversational marketing and messaging automation platform. It lets businesses create automated direct-message journeys, capture leads, segment contacts, send broadcasts and manage conversations across channels including Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email.

How much does Manychat cost in September 2026?

Under the current pricing model, monthly billing is $17 for Essential, $39 for Pro, $99 for Business and $199 for Advanced. Annual billing reduces the effective monthly prices to $14, $29, $69 and $139 respectively. Free is $0. Pricing is based on monthly Active Contacts and paid plans charge overages when the included allowance is exceeded.

What is an Active Contact in Manychat?

An Active Contact is a person who interacts with the business through Manychat during the current billing month, for example by sending a DM, commenting, replying to a story or engaging with an automation. One person counts once for that billing month regardless of how many qualifying interactions they have.

How many Active Contacts does each Manychat plan include?

The current allowances are 25 on Free, 250 on Essential, 2,500 on Pro, 7,500 on Business and 25,000 on Advanced. Paid plans can continue beyond the included amount at per-contact overage rates unless the Workspace uses its overage limit to constrain additional usage.

Is Manychat AI a separate $29 add-on?

Not under Manychat's current new pricing. Manychat's August 2026 pricing explainer says AI-powered automation is built into Pro, which costs $39 monthly or $29 per month when billed annually. Legacy documentation can still mention a separate AI add-on because older accounts are being migrated gradually.

What can Manychat AI do?

Manychat AI includes capabilities such as AI Replies, AI Comments, AI Goals, AI Knowledge, AI Behavior, text improvement, intention recognition and AI-assisted flow building. Feature availability varies by channel and product stage. Some AI skills remain Instagram-specific or beta even though the broader AI platform supports several messaging channels.

Can Manychat automatically DM every new Instagram follower?

Manychat has a Follow to DM feature in beta, but eligibility is controlled by Meta rather than the Manychat subscription. It is not available to every Instagram account. The current beta also allows only one Follow to DM message per user per week across participating accounts, and the user must interact with the opening message to begin the normal 24-hour conversation window.

What is the 24-hour rule in Manychat?

For Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, Meta generally allows automated messaging for 24 hours after the contact's latest interaction. After that, normal automated promotional messaging is restricted. Messenger and Instagram provide a limited human-agent window for manual replies, while WhatsApp can use approved Message Templates where allowed.

Does Manychat work with TikTok?

Yes, with current limitations. Manychat currently requires a TikTok Business account, and the integration is not available to users in the EU or UK under the current help documentation. TikTok permits up to 10 automated messages within 48 hours of the last interaction before the user must restart the conversation.

Does WhatsApp cost extra on Manychat?

WhatsApp is available on eligible Manychat plans, but WhatsApp template messages can carry separate Meta messaging fees based on the recipient market and message category. Those charges are separate from the base Manychat subscription.

Does Manychat use AI conversations to train models?

Manychat's AI Terms say Manychat may use AI interaction data, including Input and Output, to provide, maintain, improve, modify and develop its AI Features. The same Terms say Manychat contractually restricts third-party AI providers from using User Generated Content to train or otherwise improve their services for general use.

Does Manychat have an affiliate program?

Yes. The official PartnerStack program currently pays 30% recurring commission for 12 months for affiliates with 0 to 30 paid signups, 40% for 31 to 200 paid signups and 50% for 201 or more. A successful referral must upgrade to Pro within 90 days of signup under the current public program rules.
